Swimming and Mud

A few weeks back we went to an awesome splash pad for playgroup. Marshall loved the water and was soaked within just a few minutes. It was a fun morning had by all.

And just for comparison sake, here's Marshall at the same pool last summer. He sure has grown up, but boy, I miss those arm rolls and fat, fat tummy!


Anyway, while Marshall loved the water, he and his buddies actually loved playing in the mud even more. There is a playground in the same park as the pool and it had rained the night before leaving some nice mud puddles that, of course, the kids found. These little ones were nice and brown in no time. :)

Just look at that grin on Marshall's face, and the disgust on the face of the girl in the background. Amazing what a few years in age can do to our perception of fun. :)

Scarred

Last night we were at a friend's house enjoying delicious homemade ice cream. We were all outside, the kids were having a great time and all was well. Then, Marshall had an unfortunate encounter with a wooden fence. None of us saw what happened; we just heard the crying. Within ten seconds this dent in his head was a goose-egg and purple. It made me nauseous to look at it. Good thing it didn't bleed or else I really would have been in trouble!

We figure he was just running and tripped and his head hit the horizontal slat of wood at the bottom of the fence. We're just grateful he didn't hit his eye or break his nose, definitely a close call. His fingers also got a little scraped up.

These pictures were taken about three hours after the whole ordeal.

Marshall did cry for about 1 minute after the little accident, but it wasn't screaming, just a cry. But, after that minute, he was ready to get back down and join in the fun. Everybody was pretty impressed with his toughness. :)

This is how his head looked this morning. Good thing we don't have any special occasions or family pictures coming up soon! This will definitely take some time to heal!

On a happier note, last night just before we put Marshall to bed he asked for a song. I was just about to start singing "I Am A Child of God" when Richard started in on the BYU fight song (I really shouldn't be surprised). Anyway, he sang the whole song, but occasionally stopped singing so Marshall could fill in the blanks and he did! I was shocked and Richard was beaming. What a great family moment. :)

Annual Branch Picnic

Every year our branch has a picnic in July to commemorate Pioneer Day. It is always full of great food, lots of people, great conversation, and fun games for the kids. This year our numbers were much smaller, seeing as the branch is dwindling in numbers, but we still had a great afternoon.

Collecting the goods. Mind you, this was after the initial rush. Once the candy was out Travis and the missionaries were the first ones in. Wait, who was this pinata for?!

A Visit from Grandpa Bob and Grandma Becky

Grandpa Bob and Grandma Becky stopped by for a short visit last week. It sure was fun having them here, can't wait for September when we can spend more time with them!

Marshall especially loved this visit; it is always endless entertainment when grandparents are around! Our fun outing for their trip was a morning at the zoo. We saw lots of animals, had a lunch, Marshall and Grandpa Bob had endless fun on the playground, and we topped it off with cold ice cream. As you can tell from Marshall's face and hair, it was a HOT and HUMID day!

Love the Cosbys

Thanks to my great husband and my fantastic mother-in-law I have now accumulated all eight seasons of "The Cosby Show" since Mother's Day. I have always loved this show, and although I was young when it was originally running on television, I have fond memories of re-runs. I just watched this fantastic episode yesterday and I love, love, love this scene, so I thought I would share. I just love Rudy; she gets me laughing every time!
