Sunday Morning

Marshall began his day at 5:45 am. Richard was out the door by 6:45 am for work. By 9:40 Marshall, Bridget, and I were out the door for 10:00 church. We got home at 1:30 pm and I walked in my house and remembered that this was how my living room looked by the time we left for church.

Discouraging.

Oh well. I opted to laugh about it, take a picture, post it on my blog, and worry about it after dinner.

Would you believe that before our kids went to bed last night we cleaned up the toys and vacuumed?!

I really want a playroom.

Rice Cereal, Cake, And A Baby

At Bridget's four month check-up the pediatrician gave me the go-ahead to begin rice cereal anytime I wanted between 4-6 months. We gave Marshall rice cereal when he was four months old and figured we would do the same for Bridget. I bought the rice cereal and it sat unopened on top of our fridge for two weeks. I just couldn't bring myself to give it to her. It just made me feel like she was growing up too fast and I wasn't ready for it yet.

Well, last Sunday night she woke up SEVEN times! That's right, seven times! She has never done that before. Two of those times she wanted to eat (that hasn't happened in weeks) and the other five times she just needed her binky. Needless to say, I woke up fairly grouchy on Monday morning and decided that if she was going to want to eat more at night it was time to pull out the rice cereal and she loved it!

Here she is after her very first rice cereal feeding. Despite the looks of it, she did swallow a fair amount.

She now has rice cereal twice a day and downs it every time. One funny thing is that we fed Marshall rice cereal in this bouncer when he was a baby and didn't move him into a high chair until he started eating other solid foods. Well Bridget gets so darn excited about this rice cereal that as soon as she sees the spoon she starts bouncing herself. It makes for a very messy meal time and we really should dig out that high chair! Here's a video of her excitement...

And here's Marshall finishing off some cake. There was only one piece left and I just gave him the whole dish, I didn't feel like taking care of one more plate, he was loving it.

And lastly, Marshall has had some "baby moments" this week. He informs us that he is a baby and he proceeds to lay on the floor. Well, a few days ago he took it to the next level and told Richard to feed him and hold his drink for him. After a while of this Richard decided to also take it to the next level and swaddle Marshall. At first Marshall thought it was hilarious, but it didn't take long for him to want out of the swaddle. That pretty much put an end to "Baby Marshall" for the day. :)

Random Utah Wrap-Up

Two smiling girls.

Not sure what she's smiling at, but it is pretty cute.

Marshall was having some fun and Bridget was being a good sport.

Marshall was trying to prolong his bedtime by getting his own snack and buckling himself in. It worked.

A dinner and evening out with two wonderful college roommates.

Told you it would be random.

The end.

More Utah fun begins again on Friday!

Grandpa Yancey's 85th

This post is just about two months overdue, but I have to wrap up our trip to Utah in June before we go back to Utah this week for my brother's wedding!

While we were in Utah we were able to celebrate my Grandpa Yancey's 85th birthday. What an event! We were still living in Utah for his 80th birthday and he wanted to celebrate that by hiking to Mt. Timpanogos Cave, which we did. This year though he just wanted a low-key celebration with family. It was perfect. The Sunday before his birthday many of the family gathered for a birthday bundt cake. My Grandma Yancey used to always make bundt cakes and my dad knew of a fantastic bakery that just makes bundt cakes. It was a delicious cake and nice to celebrate a birthday the way my Grandma Yancey would.

Love this picture, what a guy!

The day of the big 85 my Grandpa treated all of us to dinner at Brick Oven. It was so fun to be together and celebrate the big occasion.

I sure do love my Grandpa Yancey; he is one great guy. Since my Grandma passed away in December I've been able to have more conversations, emails, and visits with just my Grandpa, which have been wonderful. He came out for Richard's graduation and Bridget's blessing in May and it was so great to have him with us. Love you Grandpa!

Grandpa Yancey and Lake Michigan, love this picture!

Playmates

I am happy to report that after four months Marshall has almost completely adjusted to having a little sister. While he still has no desire to hold her or give her kisses, he is no longer smacking her so that is a big improvement. :) Really though, it has been very fun to watch these two interact the last couple of weeks. Bridget smiles and laughs so easily for Marshall and he just loves it. A few times this week he has said things like "I need to play with Bridget" and "No, don't put Bridget to sleep, I want her to play with me". Just warms my heart. :) Anyway, here's what these two have been up to...

This is Bridget in "the excavator" as Marshall calls it. He pushes it all around the house and pretends to fix it. Bridget is just relaxed and happy to go along for the ride.

Here we have Bridget and the excavator neatly parked next to the "fire truck" aka airplane.

Just enjoying some morning floor time.

And lastly, just some laughing caught on camera. Bridget was really laughing a lot more before I grabbed the camera, but at least I caught a little bit.

Worst Night EVER

I write this not to get sympathy, but just so we can remember this night years down the road and get a good laugh out of it. As you may recall, I wrote this post four months ago and we are already laughing about it. I hope the same happens with this one! And, I must also say, that I take full responsibility for how this night went; I could have done things differently. So, here's the story...

Yesterday we spent the morning with friends. We were outside for two hours and Marshall was running through sprinklers, swimming, and having a great time. Of course he was exhausted when we got home and took a nap from 1:30-5:00. I very much enjoyed this long nap time and did not mind at all that I had 3.5 hours of quiet. I nursed Bridget, watched the TV show I wanted, cleaned the house, and visited with a friend. It was a great 3.5 hours!

So, Marshall woke up at 5:00. He watched a tractor movie that I promised him, we had dinner, some playtime, and clean up. Bridget was in bed at 7:30 and Marshall was in bed at 8:05. Richard was exhausted from working the night shift a couple of nights ago so we decided to hit the sack early and be in bed at 9:30. Well, at 9:30 Marshall was still awake and began screaming for cereal. I figured that there was no way Richard would be able to fall asleep with this screaming and decided to cave to Marshall's requests. I took him out to the kitchen and poured him the cereal he requested with the promise that he would go straight to bed after. I sat in the kitchen with Marshall while he ate and Richard went to bed. Marshall finished his cereal, we brushed his teeth and I tucked him in again and was in my bed by 10:00.

We all slept soundly until 3:15 when Bridget woke up to eat. I fed her and she and I were both back in bed at 3:45. A few minutes after that just as I was drifting back to sleep, I hear, "Mommy, I need cuddles!" This was said in a very sweet voice, I couldn't pass it up, big mistake. I spent some time laying next to Marshall and then told him it was time to go back to sleep in our own beds. I tucked him in and got back in my bed. A few minutes after that Marshall came and got in bed with us. We have never let him do this before, but I let him anyway in hopes that he could just settle down and fall asleep. By this time it was about 4:30 and I figured we could handle three of us in one bed for the last part of the night. Wrong again! Marshall did not settle down, but began talking the night away. I finally told him enough was enough and I took him back to bed with the warning that if he got out of bed one more time the lock would go on his door.

That threat proved to be enough to keep in his room, but shortly after that I heard him get out of his bed and turn on his light. I opted to stay in my bed and figured that he would eventually fall back asleep. Wrong again! He played the remainder of the night away and when Richard's alarm went off at 5:30 Marshall came and informed me that he was ready for breakfast. Unbelievable!

So, here we are. I have more or less been awake since 3:15. Marshall has been completely awake since 3:45. Richard, thankfully, got more sleep than us, but his sleep from 3:45-5:30 was less than perfect. And Bridget, bless her little heart, continues to sleep.

This morning I told Richard that the worst part about this is that it could have been such a great night because we went to bed so early! I also told Richard that if Marshall ever takes more than a two hour nap again we have to run him in circles until bedtime!

Things That Made Me Smile Today

Bridget's huge open mouth smiles.

Happy that I was able to catch these smiles with the camera. She has been a little camera shy as of late.

I have washed this bouncer seat two times now in 24 hours because Bridget has had two huge poop blowouts in it. This is quite concerning to Marshall as he has asked me multiple times today if there is poop in the bouncer. :)

Finding Marshall in his room sporting this new style. He was very happy with his accomplishment.

While we were getting Marshall into bed he instructed Richard to lay on the bean bag and told me to lay on the floor. He then laid next to me and told us that he had two messages to tell us. The first message was about a monster. The second message was about a flying poster who shot the monster. Interesting. His imagination always makes me smile.

And lastly, the following quote that I read on a friend's blog today...

"Rather than dwelling on the past, we should make the most of today, of the here and now, doing all we can to provide pleasant memories for the future…If you are still in the process of raising children be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled, will disappear all too soon, and that you will, to your surprise, miss them, profoundly."
-Thomas S. Monson

It has been a good day.
