Christmas Festivities

A couple of weeks ago we made a family gingerbread house.  I think this is the last year we can all share one house.  So many opinions and ideas!  It was a great evening though, so glad we did it.

Marshall and Bridget both had Christmas concerts.  I loved them!  Quite possibly the highlight of the season for me.

What a smile!

We had our annual church Christmas party as well.  It was an evening spent with friends we hold dear.  The night was complete with Santa Clause for the kids and Marshall was the only one brave enough to sit on his lap.  Better luck next year hopefully!

Outings With Mom

The Monday after Thanksgiving Marshall did not have school, but Bridget did.  Marshall was delighted, as you can imagine.  First of all, he got to go back to his old preschool, which he thought was pretty nifty.  Second, he got a morning with just Rachel and me.  He decided he wanted to go to the Domes and the three of us had a delightful time.  It really was so great to spend the morning with him.  He almost had my undivided attention and he just talked my ear off.  I surely love this boy.

Rachel is hard to photograph these days.

Turns out...so is Marshall. :)

There we go.  Love these two!
My next outing was with all three kids and it was ambitious, but a complete success!  It was a Saturday in December and I took my kids to the mall!  Richard was post-call and home sleeping, Marshall's teacher was doing a story time at Barnes and Noble, so I made a whole outing out of it.  We all had a great time and we never lost Rachel, although we came close.  :)

Marshall and Mrs. Mushall...clearly he was a tad bit nervous.  :)  She is an excellent teacher.

Barnes and Noble had a table set up for the kids to make their own bookmarks.

A trip to the Lego store.  Marshall and Bridget created while I chased Rachel around.

I am terrible at Legos.  Zero creativity when it comes to them.  We got Bridget a set of Duplos when Rachel was born.  She's gotten two more sets since and I am always so impressed with what she builds!
And one more picture, because I love it.  An outing to the downtown library.  I love that place...and these kids!

Marshall looks so old to me.  I adore Bridget's smile.  And Rachel, I think she does 100 squats a day.

Thanksgiving

These are all the pictures I took on Thanksgiving Day!  How could this be?!?!

I do always want to remember this Thanksgiving though, so I must write about it.

Richard began the day with an 8:00 am Turkey Bowl game.  They played almost three hours and he was already having trouble walking when he came through the door.  It was a long few days of recovery for him.  :)

We hosted our very first Thanksgiving!  And it was a success!  We had ten adults and five kids.  I felt like I didn't leave the kitchen for a day and a half between making food and washing dishes.  But, the dinner was great, the company even better, and the actual dinner clean up was a breeze.  We had the Bradfords, Froebes, and missionaries over.  I made 10 pounds of mashed potatoes, 48 rolls, raspberry jello salad, two banana cream pies, one apple pie, and one pumpkin cream.

I am so glad I didn't have to make the turkey.  Thank you Eliza!  I have now decided my life goal is to see how long I can go without cooking a turkey, I hope to make it to at least 50.  :)  That bird intimidates me.

Rachel At 15/16 Months

I seem to always be a month behind with this girl.  But, regardless, she is doted on and adored in this house.  Here are some things about Rachel at this fun age.

At 15 months she was 31.25 inches (67%), 19 lbs. 8 oz. (21%), and 46.7 cm head (75%)

She just takes one nap a day now, 2-3 hours, and sleeps 11-12 hours at night.

She loves to read books with us, especially Richard, during the day and before nap time.  But, when it comes to bedtime, this girl literally lunges for her crib.  Occasionally, we get a little rocking in with her, and if we are lucky, a song and prayer, otherwise, she is trying to get in there as fast as she can.  She will lay right down with her blanket and doll and wave to us as we walk out of the room.  It is so cute.

She still loves to play peek-a-boo and do "So Big".

She is a fast little walker/runner.  When she doesn't want to do something she will run away from us and hide in a corner in the kitchen.

We finally ditched the bottles just before 15 months.  She hasn't had any milk since.  But, she does love juice, although we do limit that to every few days.  Other than that, this girl is just drinking water.

She loves cereal, toast, pumpkin bread, crackers, yogurt, strawberries, bananas, sometimes apples and pears, cheese, meatballs, all pastas.  Not a fan of the veggies.  She does not like french fries, a first for our kids!  This is a good thing though.  :)

She can say Bridget!  We think she thinks everyone is Bridget, because that is frequently what she calls the rest of us.  She sometimes says please, amen, mommy, and daddy.

She does not love bath time, but tolerates it.

She hates the car and this seems to be getting worse with age, sadly!  In fact, she hates the car, being strapped in a cart, and lately, she hates even walking into stores.  It makes things difficult sometimes.

She has figured out how to climb up the bunk bed stairs, although she can't quite manage to get all the way up to the top bunk, fortunately!  However, once on the top stair she figured out she can go on her tummy, and get down to Bridget's bed.  She makes this little loop many times each day.

In November she snuck outside into the snow in bare feet.  Richard was outside, I was inside, and we both noticed it at the same time.  She was just standing in the driveway smiling, but shivering.

This girl adores baby dolls.  She will be in luck come Christmas.  :)  I have even caught her this December walking around with the angel from the Little People nativity.  She will rock it, burp it, hold it; it is so sweet!

She is very possessive of my lap anytime I am sitting down.  She doesn't always have to be on it, but if anyone else is, she is sure to bully them off.  The other day at playgroup I was reading a book to the kids on the floor.  Of course, they were all crowded around me, some of them touching my legs.  Rachel was trying her hardest to pry everyone off of me.  She wasn't whining, just busy moving everyone out of the way!

She gives the very best hugs and Richard and I love it!

Richard calls her his minion, hence the hat.  She really will do anything he asks her to do.  Their favorite is he will tell her to go tickle someone and she runs to them with a twinkle in her eye and her little fingers moving back and forth.  It makes us laugh every time.

All around, she is the perfect third child.  She is usually easy going, quick to be appeased, but can hold her own, and let's us know what she wants.

We love this little girl!

Random Moments

A random smattering of our life the last several weeks...

Morning book reading, complete with Captain Crunch.

A park outing in November.

Evening games with these two.

Mommy snuggles and a bottle.  We finally said good-bye to bottles just before she hit 15 months.  She is following in Bridget's footsteps...not a sip of milk since the bottles ended.

Someone crept into my bed one night.

Hello hair.

Beautiful sunset one night just as I pulled into work.

Love this girl!

First snow...all the way back in November.  The kids were thrilled.  We haven't seen snow since.

Some mornings I seriously regret cancelling my gym membership.  This picture was taken before 6:00 am.  I got more of a workout this morning running up and down stairs getting various breakfast foods.

So happy so early in the morning.

Darn those early mornings and late afternoon naps.

Post-diaper change courtesy of Daddy.

St. Nick's Day loot.  A book for each.  Marshall is in LOVE with his human body book.

Rachel has had a terrible three days.  Many times being inconsolable.  Yesterday morning Rachel refused to be comforted by me.  After a few minutes of crying, Bridget got down on the floor with her, rubbed her back, and said, "Hey Doke, its okay.  You can be happy.  Do you want to come read books with me?"  Rachel immediately stopped crying and these two spent a good 15 minutes together.  I love these girls.

Just after reading books together, Rachel had another meltdown.  She cried herself to sleep on the wood floor at 10:30 in the morning.  :(
