March 30, 2025-The Leake's Week

This is a nine page catch up of the last seven weeks!  Ahh!!!  My recommendation:  read the first two paragraphs, then just skip to the pictures!  Love each of you!

Hello!

Life is flying by at an alarming speed, and way too much in the Leake home has gone undocumented!  I have not written since February 10th…and here we are!  Yikes!  Every week I tell myself to write, but then I feel completely overwhelmed, so I push it off, and here I am, seven weeks later.  Gulp.

In a nutshell, here’s what’s happened the last seven weeks:  Richard and I went to Paris, I wrapped up five very intense weeks of the elementary school musical, Rachel and Gretchen performed in said musical (12 performances for Rachel and 6 for Gretchen), Bridget turned 14, and the night before her birthday, we discovered a leaking water line for our kitchen sink that was soaking her carpet, wall, and ceiling!  Ahh!  We have also had four straight weekends of dance competitions.  ðŸ˜Š  This should explain my overwhelm!  Haha!  So, here is another novel, in bullet list form…

*Paris!  Richard and I went to Paris in February, this now seems like a lifetime ago!  We went for an early celebration of our 20th anniversary in May.  It was a whirlwind of a trip.  We took a direct flight there on February 13th, and had the direct flight home on February 18th!  Haha!  But, we had four full days in that lovely city.  Here’s a quick rundown…the first two days we were with a tour group, which in many ways was nice because they provided all our transportation and we didn’t have to try and communicate with anyone.  The downside was we didn’t get to do as much as we could have done on our own, but some of the things we did with them, I don’t think we would have done on our own!  Anyway, we arrived in Paris on a Friday morning.  We met up with our guide and group in the airport and then did a 3ish hour drive to get into the city from the airport and then we drove around the city, getting off the bus at all the stops around the city:  Hotel National des Invalides, Eiffel Tower, and Arc de Triomphe.  We also drove by some other places, and the bus didn’t stop, but honestly, Richard and I were so tired, we could hardly keep our eyes open on the bus.  Haha!  We got a little rest at our hotel before heading out for dinner, a dinner river cruise on the Siene.  That was magic.

The next day we walked to the Eiffel Tower and took that beauty in from all distances and angles.  After a long line for security, we were within its gates, and let me tell you, to be standing under that creation is amazing.  You do not understand how massive it is until you are right next to it!  Incredible.  We took the elevator up to the first floor (187 feet above ground level) and had a most delicious lunch up there!  It was so good, and hello, such a fun place to eat!  After lunch, we were in a bit of a hurry, so instead of standing in line and waiting minutes for the elevator to take us down, we opted for the stairs.  The stairs are housed within one of the legs of the tower, so far from completely enclosed.  I was totally fine, but for someone (Richard) with an intense fear of heights, it was terrifying!  But, he did it, nice and slow, and holding onto the handrail for dear life!  He made it down 327 steps!  Yay!  After that, we all got back on the bus and drove to Versailles.  Our time here was more rushed than I would have liked, but that place was still amazing.  We had a guided tour inside and then about 15 minutes on the grounds on our own.  That place is sprawling and just a huge masterpiece.  The Hall of Mirrors!  Incredible.  We got back to our hotel that evening and were on our own for the rest of the trip.  We ventured out by ourselves for dinner that night.  We found a delicious, like very delicious, Italian restaurant for dinner and loved every single bite.

On Sunday we started our morning at church, and that was really cool.  We didn’t realize until we were leaving that we could have grabbed a headset, but the French language is beautiful, so we did not at all mind listening to it for an hour!  Everyone was so friendly, and it was packed!  Literally no empty seats.  After sacrament meeting, we stopped at a café for literally the most delicious chocolate pistachio croissant I have ever eaten and then walked to Notre Dame.  The bells were tolling and it was very quintessential to be standing in front of that majestic cathedral.  After that we did more walking and just enjoyed the streets of Paris on a Sunday afternoon and did some souvenir shopping.  We then took a quick Uber to our hotel, dropped off our things and changed into warmer clothes (it was high 30s and low 40s for our entire trip, we were prepared and always bundled, but church clothes do not provide a lot of warmth!)  After we were dressed warm, we ventured out again and walked to the Musee’ de Orsay.  I had multiple people recommend this art museum to me instead of going to the Louve, since our time was so short.  It was incredible.  Housed within those gorgeous walls are works from Van Gogh, Monet, Seurat, Rodin (paintings and sculptures).  It was busy, but not overly crowded and it was so incredible to stand in front of such famous works of art.  After the museum, we made another quick stop at a café and then took an Uber to the Sacre-Coeur Basilica.  We did not go inside, but enjoyed walking around.  It is set up on a hill and overlooks all of Paris.  We got there late afternoon, and it was just milling with people, we guessed it was a fun place to take in the sunset.  We did not stick around for that, but we loved walking the cobblestone streets and eventually made our way to dinner at La Mere Catherine-a restaurant a friend recommended, and it did not disappoint.  A classically French restaurant.  We were in the Montmartre neighborhood, artists were literally painting outside, live music inside and outside and we had the most leisurely and delicious meal.  After dinner, we opted to walk our way down through the neighborhood on the narrow cobblestone streets before catching an Uber back to the hotel.  We did a lot all on our own that day!

Our last day was spent at Disneyland Paris!  How could we pass this up?!  We went to Disneyland on our honeymoon, so it only felt right to give a whole day to Disneyland Paris.  It was delightful.  It is definitely smaller, less rides, but the castle is incredible.  Less crowds.  Some same rides, like Pirates and Haunted Mansion, but done differently.  And also rides that are not in California.  Way less souvenirs, and way less food!  Also way less people driving motorized wheelchairs and much smaller family groups.  It really was fun to experience it for a day.

Then we were up bright and early the next morning, got back with our tour group, who got us to the airport, and we flew home!  It was a whirlwind, but a great way to celebrate 20 really incredible years.

*All things dance!  The night before we left for Paris, Rachel and Gretchen had a dance recital.  It was their competition showcase, so all the competition teams got to perform their dances.  It was fun to finally see these dances I have been hearing so much about!  Both girls did great.  It was definitely a long evening of dance though, and lots of costume changes!  Haha!  Since then, Rachel has had one competition and one convention/competition.  And Gretchen has also had two.  These things have literally consumed our last four Saturdays.  It is so fun to cheer them on though and their dances are getting better and better each week.  We do have a bit of time to breathe, before more competitions start again the middle of April.  My parents were so kind and came to Ogden to see Rachel’s first competition.  Four of her five dances were in a small time window, so it was ideal for the audience, but stressful and fast costume changes!  Fun and exhausting Saturdays.

*Track!  Marshall wrapped up his indoor track season right after we got back from Paris.  He and I headed up to Pocatello for the Simplot games.  I had a van full of high school kids on the way up and it was hilarious.  They literally played name that tune for almost two hours straight!  It was fun to be there to cheer on Marshall in such an iconic setting, but he was still stuck at his mental wall of a 5:22ish mile.  He had been running at that pace for over a year and was feeling the frustration.  He finally had his mental breakthrough on March 7th in St. George at their first outdoor meet.  He ran a 5:09, shaving a solid 12 seconds off of his PR.  We were so proud of him!  Not only did he have a great race, he had a super fun weekend with his teammates.  They left Thursday after school, drove down, and played, swam, and ran all weekend long, getting home late Saturday night.  We hope the rest of his outdoor track season goes well and he can get a couple of more PR’s.

*Family Valentine Dinner and Family Fondu Night:  Since 2014, we have had a tradition of having a family dinner for Valentine’s Day.  It is very rarely on Valentine’s Day, and this year was no exception because Richard and I were in Paris!  Before we left though, we set the date of our family dinner for a Friday night.  I asked everyone to just be home by 6:00 pm for dinner and promised the kids they could all scatter at 7:00.  They were all so nice to completely comply without a complaint and we had a lovely dinner together!  Bridget and Gretchen also completely made our dessert for us that afternoon, one of our favorites, dirt cake.  Anyway, super fun evening.  Family dinners are rare for us these days, so to all be together on a Friday night dinner was very special.  Everyone also pitched into help clean up and then by golly, ALL the kids left at 7:15 pm.  Marshall dropped all the girls off at their friend locations, and then he met up with his friends.  It was surreal!  All the kids gone on a Friday night.  I was completely giddy about it!  Richard and I celebrated by talking, taking naps (at 8:00 pm!) and then watching a show.  Dreamy, right?!  Haha!  A couple of weeks later for Sunday dinner we did a fondu night with the kids and it was so fun.  Richard and I used to host fondu parties with friends frequently during our first few years of marriage, we even hosted a few in Wisconsin.  But aside from chocolate fondu one New Year’s Eve a handful of years ago, we haven’t done it at all.  But we changed that on that Sunday evening and we had so much fun!  We did a cheese fondu (so good!) and we dipped French bread, cauliflower, crackers, pretzels.  Yum!  We also did a chocolate fondu and dipped fruit, marshmallows, and more pretzels.  It was such a fun evening!

*Ankle Recovery!  I am now officially seven months post ankle break and surgery.  The week after we got home from Paris, I had my final follow-up with my surgeon.  More x-rays and a check-up.  Everything has healed great and all my hardware remains firmly in place, which is exactly what I want to hear!  They gave me the all clear to be done with PT, and told me I could come back anytime for an x-ray.  While I hope I never see anyone in this orthopedic practice again, I sure am grateful for the excellent care I have received over the last six months with them.  I also said good-bye to all my wonderful PT people that week as well.  Dereck Hope has now helped Rachel and me SO much and I am grateful for every bit of it.  He literally gave us our lives back and confidence in our bodies and their capabilities once again.  While I have not at all missed the six hours a week I was spending at PT, I do miss all the happy people there.  My ankle has gotten so much stronger.  My balance on that leg is not what it was, but is still improving.  And my mobility and flexibility in my foot and ankle is still getting better too.  Just the other day I pointed my left foot and could tell a noticeable difference, and that is huge for me!  It is looking closer and closer to my right foot.  Once again, so, so thankful for a body that is capable of healing.

*Band Concerts!  Both Marshall and Bridget had school band concerts, back to back nights!  My Dad was so kind and came to both concerts with Richard and me.  The high school band concert was super interactive and that was a fun twist.  They played music for an old silent film, and also set all the other music to other short films.  It was fun!  It has been great to see the junior high bands progress through the year with their very young band teacher, who looks like he could be in high school himself!  In March, Bridget also attended the district jazz band festival and a festival for symphonic band.  Marshall was at the high school region band festival on Thursday evening.  All bands did well!  Marshall is planning to be done with band after this sophomore year and Richard is a little sad about it.

*Snelgrove Ice Cream!  I love that this is getting its own paragraph, but Snelgrove has come to Centerville and opened up just a few weeks ago.  I will not tell you how many times we have gone, but it has become a new favorite spot.  We actually haven’t been there all together, but many trips have been had, and as of this writing, each of us has been there at least once.  It is delicious!  And we are all loving their classic cone which has two different spots for two different kinds of ice cream!  Amazing!

*Leaking Water Line!  Ahh!!!  The night before Bridget’s birthday, on Monday, March 10th, Richard and I were sound asleep in our bed.  Bridget was in her bedroom, but was so excited for her birthday the next day, that she was having a hard time falling asleep.  Plus, she kept hearing a sound in her wall.  We did have a slight mice problem in the blessed year of 2020 in that bedroom, so she was on edge.  She eventually got out of bed and walked toward the sound, near her closet.  And upon reaching her closet realized her carpet was wet and water was dripping from her ceiling.  She came upstairs about 11:20 pm and told Richard her ceiling was wet.  You can bet that Richard literally flew out of bed and was in her bedroom in seconds!  Not what you want to hear at any time…day or night!  By midnight we had cleared out the affected area of her closet (thankfully not a huge section) turned off the water to the house, put Bridget to bed, and had decided it was most likely coming from something having to do with the kitchen sink.  Again, not what you want to figure out less than three months after a massive remodel has finished!  Ahh!!!  Thankfully, from everything we could tell, everything in our kitchen was dry.  We eventually made it back to our beds and had a very rough night’s sleep.  I called Paul Davis early in the morning on the 11th and by about 9:30 that morning we had Paul Davis here ripping out everything that was wet and a plumber here to repair the leak.  It was determined it was a leaking water line for our kitchen sink.  It was the tiniest drip!  But, I am guessing it had been leaking for a while, and finally saturated everything.  Thankfully, the leak was below the subfloor, so just like we had hoped, everything on the main floor was dry and totally fine.  The plumber was able to repair the leak from the basement, going back and forth between working in Bridget’s closet and the basement bathroom.  Paul Davis just had to rip out some ceiling from the closet and bathroom, some sheetrock in the wall, some carpet pad and a bit of baseboard, so nothing terribly major.  Also, because it was clean water that was leaking, the clean up just involved drying everything out with big fans and dehumidifiers.  Bridget was such a good sport about being displaced from her bedroom for four days.  She slept in the loft and she and Marshall just used other bathrooms.  We are just waiting now on everything to be repaired.  Thankfully, we have a 12-month warranty in our contract with Bluerock, and they have been great to work with.  The plumber (who we actually really loved) will pay for all of this, thankfully!  I will admit though, I am living in paranoia about another water leak, and every few days check rooms for water damage!

*Frozen Jr!  This elementary school musical has borderline consumed our lives since November.  I am so glad it is done!  Haha!  Rachel shined on stage as a member of Elsa’s snow chorus.  She was such a trooper being double cast, it made for such a HUGE performance week.  She did 12 performances in 6 days…it was a lot!  Bless that little snow chorus though, that was who I did choreography for.  Five out of my six dancers do competition dance and have very demanding schedules.  For our earlier rehearsals in January and early February, I had all six of them, but at our last dress rehearsal, that was the first time all six of them had danced together in probably six weeks!  They were so patient with me as I slowly got my choreography hat back on, and they performed so well!  It really was so fun for me to watch them from the side of the stage or out in the audience each night.  And darling Gretchen, oh my, that girl literally beams on stage.  She was in Olaf’s summer chorus as well as a townsperson.  She just radiated joy each time she was up there.  It was beyond fun to watch her.  Both girls really performed so well, and on top of all of this, they navigated very demanding dance schedules, especially Gretchen who had dance competitions both the weekend before the play and after.  Both girls had three weeks straight of pretty much going back and forth between the school and the studio with a lot of changing and eating in the car on the go.  We are so grateful for every person who came to watch the play and support these two little stars.  And on opening night, Richard, Marshall, Bridget and myself were all able to be in the audience-a real treat!

*Stake Conference with Elder Gong:  A couple of weeks ago we got a real treat and had a special stake conference with Elder Gong.  On Saturday evening there was a special meeting for all RS women in ten stakes.  Elder and Sister Gong spoke, along with other men and women in church leadership roles.  It was exceptional.  Elder Gong was the last speaker and didn’t speak at the pulpit, but instead came down and walked around and led a great discussion, while also speaking.  Sunday morning our three oldest kids were awesome and left the house before 7:30 am to get to the Regional Center for the 8:00 am youth meeting, again including ten stakes.  I was so proud of that choice they all made and their willingness to get up so early on a Sunday morning.  Then our stake had our conference and it was so good.  Before the meeting, Elder Gong walked down the aisle we were sitting on.  He wasn’t shaking many hands, but waving and making eye contact.  He paused and made eye contact with me and Marshall (Marshall was on the aisle), he took a step back, and then took a step toward Marshall and gave him a fist bump.  ðŸ˜Š  At the end of the meeting, Elder Gong said he would stay and shake hands with anyone who wanted to stay, and we did!  It took almost an hour of waiting in line, but it was completely worth it.  He asked each of our names, made great eye contact, and shook our hands.  Sadly, Richard had to work this whole weekend, so he was home, but at least he was able to view it virtually.  For a while now, Elder Gong has been Rachel’s favorite apostle, and this experience has completely cemented that for her!

Okay, just a quick update on individuals, with things not already mentioned!

*Gretchen:  Gretchen did have a bunch of friends over for a pajama/movie night the end of February.  They watched Rocketman and had a blast.  Grizz was in heaven.  Gretchen also had her first eye appointment.  She has been thinking that she might need glasses, and while her vision isn’t 20/20, it is not super far off, so we will just keep visiting the eye doctor every year, and with the genes she has, she will definitely need glasses eventually!

*Rachel:  Rachel has gone to multiple birthday parties these last several weeks.  And also after a whole weekend of a dance convention/competition, we dropped her off at a trampoline park on a Saturday night where she and her friends jumped around for 3 more hours.  Incredible!  She did come home completely exhausted though, but very happy.  Rachel is also trying to make the switch to contacts, and while she was successful getting them in at the eye doctor, she has not had the same success getting them back in.  Also, it took her over 90 minutes to get them out that night, so needless to say, it has been traumatic!  I had them switch her to the brand Marshall and I use though, and we will take a deep breath and try those after Spring Break.  Rachel did get to take a visit to the farm a few Mondays ago.  She loved seeing the new baby goats and reuniting with her favorite cat!  Haha!

*Bridget:  Our sweet, sweet Bridget is 14 years old.  It literally blows my mind.  Bridget, even as a teenager, remains our calm, level-headed, sensitive soul.  She is our eternal peacemaker.  She and Gretchen have developed the sweetest relationship the last handful of months.  Most Sundays at church, Gretchen is laying on Bridget’s lap and Bridget just loves on her the whole time.  She is SO reliable and our most independent child.  Bless that girl!  She is an awesome student, begrudgingly still taking piano lessons, and is still loving band and jazz band.  She actually just quit horseback riding the beginning of March in anticipation of track season starting, which will closely be followed by the cross country season.  She is fully committed to both!  The other Saturday I came home and Bridget and Cambria had moved their homemade hurdles outside and had set up a whole course for themselves.  They were both in heaven.  Bridget has had a rough school year of friendships, with significant growing pains, but Cambria has remained her one constant through it all.  As the school year has gone on, she has solidified some real solid friendships, and I am so proud of her.  The weekend before her birthday, she had a bunch of friends over for pizza, a movie and just hanging out.  It was awesome to meet all these girls I hear her talk about and I loved having them in our house.  They had a really great time and I was so happy Bridget could have a great birthday celebration with good friends.  Bridget’s happy place is still the farm.  I think I wrote, back in January, that she saw a goat give birth and loved it.  Well, not only has she seen more being born, she delivered a baby goat just a couple of weeks ago!  That girl continues to amaze me!

*Marshall:  This kid continues to surprise us with the things he is all of a sudden stepping into.  He wants to grow up in all the ways, except in making his own sandwich.  The beginning of March he applied for the pilot and aviation program at the Davis Catalyst Center.  He found out just a couple of weeks ago that he got in!  This will be for next school year, his junior year.  He met with the school counselor to accept the spot, he is now just crossing his fingers that all the scheduling works in his favor.  If it works out, he will be at the Catalyst Center for two class periods on either an A Day or B Day.  At the end of the course, he will have his ground school portion of his private pilot’s license.  Heaven help me if this is the career path he sticks with.  A few weeks ago Marshall asked a girl to Prom, so crazy!  He had a bunch of friends over on a Saturday night and they all asked their dates.  I loved that our house was home-base for that.  Just last night, Marshall and his friends went and got tacos at a new place in Centerville, went to an art museum in Salt Lake, and ended the night with Nielson’s Frozen Custard…this sounds very grown up!

*Jenny:  I was so excited when PT was done because I felt like I was going to get so much time back, but then I remembered I was in the thick of things with the musical, so I was drowning even more than before!  Needless to say, I have very much enjoyed this last week with time at home during the school day!  I did get to go to book club a couple of weeks ago, and also enjoyed a combined YW/RS activity and that was super fun to go to with Rachel and Bridget.  I am loving seeing my plants and flowers poking through the dirt in my front flower bed and I look forward to baby-ing that again this year.  Oh!  How could I forget?!  This last Monday I went to Plunj with Stacie and Audrey and it was so much fun!  We did two cycles through 15 minutes in the sauna at almost 200 degrees, and then five minutes in 55 degree water!  It was completely exhilarating, and I am certain my ankle was less swollen when I went to bed.

*Richard:  Despite being very busy with work, Richard has managed to swing a couple of trips to Provo for sporting events.  Sadly, he has gone alone to these, but regardless, he has still had a great time!  He went down for the BYU vs. Utah basketball game and also a men’s volleyball game.  Richard also spoke in church last Sunday and did a great job!

Okay, gosh, I think that is it.  This has been exhausting to write!  Haha!  Here’s hoping I will be better at this with PT and the musical off of my plate!  Fingers crossed!

Love,

Richard, Jenny, Marshall, Bridget, Rachel and Gretchen ðŸ˜Š

February 10, 2025-The Leake's Week

 Hello!

I am here to report a "regular" week in the Leake household, super busy, yes, but also very ordinary...which I am not going to lie...was wonderful!  Here's a quick rundown...

Last Monday, Richard worked 7:00 am-4:00 pm, but at home!  This is a new change in 2025, and we are loving it.  That is an early shift that he used to have to drive to Ogden or Murray for, but it is beyond nice that it is at home! The kids all went off to school.  I worked in the Charger Store that day, which is always a highlight!  I got to see Bridget for a minute and have a blast hanging out with my friend, Kara.  After that I dashed over to Viewmont to help with a lunch for the teachers, and two hours later I was back at Viewmont to help with Muffin Monday for the track team-it was a day of volunteering at the schools!   Per the usual, Marshall was less than thrilled that I was showing my face in his territory, but I got him to at least say hi to me and he had multiple friends talk to me, so maybe he can learn from their example...parents are not the end of the world!  Haha!  Rachel and Gretchen both had dance that afternoon and evening and Bridget worked at the farm.

Tuesday morning after getting Rachel and Gretchen off to school, I went to PT.  I have done four solid months of PT now and it has helped so much.  Tuesday was an extra long day there...three hours, but it was so good.  I am balancing on one leg, jumping on two feet, jumping/leaping from one foot to one foot, doing these killer calf raises that make me want to die, and generally dripping in sweat.  Haha!  My ankle is so much stronger, balance is getting better, and mobility, though still limited, is improving...slowly!  I have my 6 month check-up with my surgeon at the end of February and I am excited to show off my skills and also to hear what the next steps will be.  The rest of our day was normal.  Dance for Rachel and Gretchen, and an evening at home with Marshall and Bridget, which is always very lovely.

Wednesday morning I had an early meeting at the elementary school to touch base on Gretchen's progress in speech therapy.  She has been doing speech lessons at the school since last spring.  Admittedly, I am terrible at paying attention to the details of her speech at home, and we have not been the greatest at practicing (life has been a lot lately!) so I felt like I have hardly seen improvement!  But, turns out, she does great with her sh and r sounds when she is with the speech teacher!  Haha!  She still needs a little bit of help, and then lots of help using these new skills in everyday conversation, but she has a great foundation, and for that I am very thankful.  The rest of the school day was routine, but once school was done, we all hit the ground running, literally!  Between Richard, my Mom, me, and a neighbor, we pulled it all off!  Marshall had track practice and then played in the pep band for the girls and boys basketball game.  He got home around 9:00 pm.  Bridget was home for a bit, and then went right back to the school because the jazz band was playing and helping amp up excitement for the band for the 7th grade registration.  After she got home, she was off to YW's.  Rachel and I had musical choreography from 3:30-5:00.  It went great!  After that, we quickly ran over to the junior high to register our little Rachel Louise for junior high...ahhhhh!!!  After being in the school for less than 15 minutes, we were back in the car again to grab her some dinner before her piano lesson.  Richard picked her up at 7:00, brought her home, and she jumped right into our YW class activity...I was running on fumes by this point!  Gretchen, bless little Gretchen, walked home from school alone and hung out alone at home until my Mom picked her up at 4:45 for music class.  It was a parent day, so my Mom stayed with her.  Gretchen was not happy she had a grandparent instead of a parent, but when all was said and done, she reported it was pretty good. :)  After that, it was off to dance!  Needless to say, I was so happy when the evening was done and we were finally all home together with nowhere else to run to.

On Thursday, Richard just worked in Bountiful, which he is always happy about.  He left our house early that morning so he could go to the temple before work.  I went to PT again after the kids all left for school.  After school, Gretchen had Mary Grace over to play, Rachel had dance and Bridget had piano.  I hosted a PTA meeting at our house that evening...I am pulling together a fun run fundraiser for our school.  This is actually something I have wanted to do since moving to Utah, and by golly, I am finally doing it!  Bless all the women who have agreed to help me.

Friday!  We made it to the weekend...yay!  Richard was back in Bountiful for work.  Rachel and Gretchen both had play practice after school.  Marshall had another Friday night race at the Olympic Oval that he and I went to.  This was a fun one because his cousin, Benson, was in his same heat!  Ben, Lisa, and I were there to cheer the boys on.  Marshall has been stuck up against a mental wall with his mile time...he can't break 5:20, so he was a little bummed, but he still had fun with his friends and running with Benson.  It was a fun way to spend a Friday evening.  Marshall convinced me to let him drive us home, and after standing outside of the car and taking some deep breaths for a minute, I relented!  Ah!  He did a great job though and navigated Bangerter Highway, I-215, and I-15.  While we were gone, Gretchen had an extra dance rehearsal, and then played with Naomi.  Rachel was off with friends and Bridget played with Cambria.  A fun and relaxing evening for all!

Saturday!  We all got to sleep in a bit, which was very nice and also needed!  By 8:15, Richard and I were out of the house to drop Marshall's car off for routine maintenance and Marshall was off to track practice.  Bridget had a farm meeting at 10:00 am, and towards the end of the meeting, a goat went into labor and Bridget got to see another birth.  This one was more intense because it was a 9 lb baby and the hind legs came out first.  Bridget said it was intense, but she still loved it!  This girl!  She amazes me!  She was home a little after noon, and then I took her back to the farm at 3:00 so she and Cambria could play with the babies before they did evening chores.  Rachel had a two hour dance rehearsal that afternoon, then after coming home and getting jobs done, she was back out with friends for the rest of the afternoon and evening.  Gretchen and I went to a music composition meeting with her music teacher that morning, and then Gretchen dragged her jobs on for literally the whole day before having Naomi over to play that evening.  Marshall did homework, relaxed and then that night Richard and I introduced him to the Mandarin by bringing takeout home.  My parents will get a kick out of this because I loathed the Mandarin until I was in college-haha!

We had a lovely Sunday yesterday.  Bridget was set apart as the first counselor in her YW's class presidency, and then she had a two hour presidency meeting after church...so we will see how this goes!  Haha!  The rest of us had a very relaxing afternoon.  I talked to Kevin on the phone and got to do a video call to see darling Alice.  We did watch the Superbowl, quite a boring game, with I believe only one Taylor Swift sighting!  Once the game was over, we had FHE and scones for dessert before sending everyone to bed.

Well, that's a wrap!  Love each of you.

Richard, Jenny, Marshall, Bridget, Rachel and Gretchen :)

Disney Cruise-and other random highlights!

 Hello, hello!

January has come and gone!  Hard to believe.  One full month behind us in 2025-time flies!  This is a super long email.  If I were you, just read the first part, and then skip to the pictures!

The last email I sent was January 6th.  Gosh.  I cannot keep up.  We were on a Disney cruise from January 18-25 and it was heaven.  The cruise is all detailed below, do not read it!  Haha!  Purely for our records.  Here are a few random high points and low points from before and after the cruise...

*Poor Marshall got a miserable stomach bug and missed the first two days back to school in January.  Fortunately, no one else got it, I am sure thanks to neurotic cleaning and so many prayers!

*On January 11th we took Marshall, Bridget and Rachel to the Bountiful Temple to do baptisms!  So lovely being there with our three oldest kids!  And Gretchen went to a baptism for one of her best friends, so it was an extra lovely morning for everyone!

*Marshall got his braces off on January 15th!  2 1/2 years...he is being semi-good at wearing his retainer.

*Bridget saw a goat give birth at the farm last Monday night and to quote her, "It was amazing!"  She honestly loved it and has recounted it to me in detail.

*I started choreography for the school musical and I cannot tell you how much stress it has added to my life.

*Marshall came down with a cold the last two days of our cruise, but it was not awful.  I started to feel sick the day after we got home and proceeded to have six miserable nights of sleep.  But, Bridget takes the cake because she got sick on Wednesday and had a fever for three days...we have not dealt with fevers since our kids were little, little.  But, she was finally fever free on Saturday morning, sweet girl.

*I am still in PT.  But, I can jump now!  This is huge!  My ankle does not like the cold weather, and was much happier in the Caribbean!  Take me back!

Love each of you.

Over a year and a half ago, we booked a Disney cruise, and turns out, we picked the perfect time, for so many reasons!  One of them being, we completely escaped the polar vortex that swept through the country-haha!

Richard had Friday, the 17th off.  All the kids went to school and Richard and I spent the day finishing laundry, packing, and dropping Ziggy off at doggy day care.  By 3:30, all the kids were home and we made our way to the airport.  We had a long, but uneventful flight to Orlando.  We got our suitcases, quickly picked up our rental car, and drove just seven minutes to the hotel.  We all fell into bed, everyone was asleep within minutes, and we all slept great!

We were able to sleep in on Saturday morning, which was good for all of us!  We were a bit ragged from the week prior!  We did breakfast at the hotel, packed up, checked out, and were on the road a little before 11:00.  It was just supposed to be about a 45 minute drive from the hotel to the port, but what we didn't know is that this port had multiple cruise ships headed out that day and it is just a two lane highway.  So, we definitely found ourselves in traffic, but we listened to Disney music, took in the fun scenery of water and palm trees, and Marshall slept.  :)  Before long, we had arrived at Port Canaveral!  We dropped our bags off at the curb, parked in the parking garage, and made our way to the cruise terminal.  It took 30ish minutes to check-in and go through security, and then we were stepping onto the beautiful Disney Treasure.  The second we walked into the atrium of the ship, Rachel exclaimed, "It smells just like I remember!"  And she was not wrong.  Even though we sailed on a different ship two years ago, it smelled exactly the same, and I love that Rachel remembered.  She and I soaked in that smell for the entire trip!   After walking through the gorgeous 3-story atrium, we made our way to the 11th deck for lunch.  Our plan was to go to Marceline Market (their lunch buffet) but we got to Mickey and Friend's Festival of Foods-and a festival it was and hardly any lines!  This area was full of different restaurants surrounding the pool decks.  There was BBQ, pizza, tacos, a grill with burgers and other things, and fries, fresh fruit, and of course, endless soft serve ice cream.  :)  Some of us ate at the BBQ place, others got pizza, and of course, everyone got ice cream!  We got a table in a perfect spot and just ate and talked and basked in the amazement of this huge, new, beautiful ship.  After lunch, we found our staterooms.  We put ourselves on the 6th floor this time.  We had adjoining rooms and verandahs!  We had fun checking out our rooms and we also met our wonderful stateroom host, who was so kind to take such good care of our rooms all week.  Her name was Jenny!  After checking out our rooms, we made our way to the various kids clubs and got our kids all registered for those.  That was a bit of a waste, because Gretchen never went back and the other kids each just spent a bit of time in there later on in the day, and never went back.  :)  After that, we had the mandatory safety drill and then we went up to deck 12 for the sail away party!  We all had some sort of drink or food in hand, we danced to music, enjoyed the fun show on deck 11 with Mickey, Minnie, and other Disney friends, and within minutes, we were headed out!  We were the last ship to leave that afternoon, and while we were up on 12 we were able to see each of them sail away, so that was pretty cool too!  After the sailaway party, we all scattered a bit.  The girls and I grabbed seats in one of the two movie theaters to see Moana 2, Marshall did go to Vibe, his one and only time in the kids club for his age group, and Richard got right in on trivia.  Haha!  The entertainment crew on board constantly has all sorts of trivia games going on all the time all over the ship, and Richard loves them!  Richard and Marshall also eventually met up and played shuffleboard.  By the evening, our suitcases were finally delivered to our rooms, we unpacked, and then made our way to dinner.  Our assigned restaurant that night was at Worlds of Marvel and it did not disappoint.  Such a fun and interactive atmosphere.  We all ate great, we met Lloyd and Yami, our wonderful server and assistant server, and Marshall got a picture with Spiderman.  We were done with dinner shortly before 10:00 pm and we all decided to call it a night.  We went back to our rooms, saw the first towel animal Jenny had made us, ate our chocolates, and fell into bed for our first night being rocked to sleep by the ocean.  :)  What a great, great day!  Oh, one other fun thing.  We did step out onto our verandah that night and saw a VERY bright star.  Bridget has an app on her phone that will identify stars and planets for you, so when she pointed her camera at it, the app told us it was Saturn!  We are believing the app and claiming we saw Saturn.  :)

On Sunday, we all slept past 9:30 am.  We had breakfast at Marceline Market.  They had a fantastic breakfast spread.  Something for everyone!  The girls ate Mickey waffles and chocolate chip pancakes every day.  Bridget loved their bacon.  Marshall and I got eggs benedict and/or quiches every single morning.  And lots and lots of delicious breakfast pastries.  Yum, yum!  After breakfast, the kids immediately put swimming suits on and made a bee-line for the Aqua Mouse.  This is something they have been looking forward to for months!  It is the waterslide on the ship, but also a ride.  You sit in a two person tube that is on a moving conveyor belt that takes you into a big tube.  It is slowly moving you uphill as you watch darling old school Mickey and Minnie cartoons.  There is talking and music playing and you get the occasional squirt or mist of water.  That part is probably about 90 seconds, then the conveyor belt ends at a bit of a drop and the rest is an actual water slide.  Sometimes the tube is dark and completely enclosed, at times it is open air, and at the end it is a clear, fully enclosed tube that takes you out over the ocean.  And then it ends!  The kids were all so excited to try this.  Given my ankle, I wanted them to ride it first and tell me about it, so I sent them off and asked for details!  Gretchen was excited, but also nervous, so she rode with Bridget and Marshall and Rachel rode together.  The three older kids all LOVED it, but once was enough for Gretchen.  She was terrified when she went out over the ocean and said she would never do it again!  So, Richard and I hung out with her on deck 11, ate food, and just relaxed as the older kids rode it a few more times.  The rest of the afternoon was spent napping and doing trivia.  The girls had fun exploring the ship and found their favorite place.  Deck 6, right at the very front.  It is the point that sticks out furthest on the ship and you could catch a great wind out there.  The girls loved it and seriously spent a huge chunk of their afternoon being windblown out there.  I have raised them right though because they told me they wanted to watch the sunset from deck 6 that evening...done!  The four of us had a delightful time out there.  :)  One funny part of the afternoon was Richard, Marshall and I were up on deck 11...eating, and all of a sudden Gretchen came around the corner!  We were so shocked to see her, wandering around alone, but clearly she felt very confident navigating things independently.  She continued to do this multiple times throughout the week, all in the procurement of ice cream!  Haha!  Before dinner, we went to our first show, "Disney Seas, the Adventure".  It was fun and charming and full of fun music and the classic and beloved Disney characters.  The theatre was beautiful and hard to believe it was on a cruise ship!  At the end, confetti fell from the ceiling and Gretchen, especially, loved it.  After the show, we went right to dinner, at Coco!  Coco is my most favorite Disney movie, so I was especially excited for this restaurant and it did not disappoint.  The entertainment was stellar with live music and acting tidbits from Miguel and his family.  The decor was amazing and I found the whole thing delightful.  If I could find the dishes they used in that restaurant, I would instantly buy them.  After dinner, Rachel and Gretchen went back to our room to relax, but the rest of us went to a drawing Goofy class, and then played Disney trivia and Majority Matters before calling it a night.  In Majority Matters Marshall got called out for his answer, and that led to a very fun back and forth between the teenagers in the room and everyone older than that.  Marshall hated the attention, but he handled it well!  Ha!

Our Monday was the laziest day, but gosh, it also felt so good!  Richard was the only one who woke up in time to eat breakfast, and that is saying something, because breakfast closed at 10:45!  Haha!  Granted, we did lose an hour of sleep that night, but still.  :)  Once everyone was up and moving, we just went straight to Deck 11.  We ate, swam, napped, and watched Raya and the Last Dragon up by the pool.  After a while, Richard left us for trivia, but the rest of us were content to soak in the sun and be close by the food. :)  Later that afternoon, Richard and Marshall met up for trivia, and the girls and I went to see Moana 2 again.  Bridget and I did sneak out early though to watch the ventriloquist who was performing for one night only.  He was amazing and hilarious!  Bridget and I were laughing so hard sometimes that we had tears rolling down our cheeks.  He is from London, so of course his accent was delightful.  He won America's Got Talent a couple of years ago and has had a show in Vegas.  He was so good, we both loved it.  We had dinner at 1923 that night.  Just a classically elegant and beautiful restaurant.  After dinner, we played a round of Majority Matters before calling it a night and going to bed!

Tuesday morning we woke up in Tortola!  One of the beautiful, beautiful British Virgin Islands.  These islands reminded me of Moana...probably because we had been watching a lot of it!  But seriously, Tortola is just a stunning green mountain bursting out of the bluest waters of the Caribbean.  Just stunning.  We forced everyone to wake up at 8:30 so that we could have breakfast and lunch before getting off the ship.  We let ourselves have a lazy morning after breakfast though.  The girls watched a movie, Marshall did homework, I read on the verandah, and Richard and I both napped...now that is a way to spend a morning!  Haha!  After lunch, we left the ship at 1:00 for our excursion on Tortola!  We climbed into an open air safari bus with the nicest tour guide.  He drove us all over the mountains and hills of Tortola.  We learned so much about the history of the island and the surrounding islands.  He was so kind and made multiple stops along the road to point out interesting things and let us take pictures.  At times it was also a sobering drive as he pointed out multiple buildings that had been destroyed in 2017 by Hurricane Irma that have yet to be rebuilt.  These buildings included a government building and a school, among others.  We did drive by another school though and we saw kids playing outside.  It was such a fascinating drive!  We eventually made it to Sage Mountain National Park, this national park was funded by the Rockefellers.  We had two guides who took us on a one mile hike through the jungle of Tortola.  It was humid, muddy, and SO green.  We saw huge leaves, SO big.  Richard had to carry Gretchen through some pretty muddy parts, but he never fell, and for that I am very grateful!  I also did great!  I have specifically been doing exercises at PT to get me ready for this hike.  I wore my ankle brace and they had walking sticks available for whoever wanted one, and even though a walking stick had not crossed my mind, I was very grateful for one!  I navigated the whole hike very well and I am SO grateful that I was able to do it.  After our hike, they had cold drinks for us at a little shack and then we got back in the open air safari bus for more driving.  More amazing views, more history, more hills, and before we knew it we were at Cane Garden Bay Beach.  Oh my.  Marshall immediately declared it the nicest beach he has ever been to, and I completely agree!  The sand was so soft, with not a rock in sight.  The water was warm and clear and so refreshing.  The kids and I played in the water, with some decent waves, for 75 minutes.  Richard observed from the beach, both napping and taking pictures for us.  The kids and I seriously had the best time.  And once again, my ankle did great as I navigated the sand and uneven terrain, both in and out of the ocean.  It was bliss.  Our time at the beach passed quickly, and before we knew it, we were back on the bus to head back to the cruise ship.  Once we got back to our rooms, we all showered and got cleaned up and got ready for Pirate Night!  We went to the pirate party up on Deck 11 before dinner.  Rachel and Gretchen danced for a minute with one of the cast members.  It was fun!  We had dinner at World of Marvel again, but it was all pirate themed.  After dinner, the younger girls were beat, so they went back to the room, but the four of us went to see the fireworks!  Richard got us a great spot and we practically had a front row seat to fireworks over the ocean!  Amazing!  What a day!

On Wednesday morning we woke up in beautiful St. Thomas, of the U.S. Virgin Islands.  We decided to split for this excursion.  The girls and I got off the ship at 10:45 to go snorkeling!  It was SO hot and humid this day.  We got on another open air safari bus, and even though it was just about a 15 minute drive, it felt like forever!  Our driver didn't give us any history as we drove, and it was seriously so humid!  It was fascinating to drive through the streets though because there is a stark difference to the buildings and roads compared to Tortola.  That was actually a huge chunk of our dinner conversation that night...the noticeable differences between the two islands, despite being so close together.  Anyway, we drove by the one university in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and then we were at the beach, Brewers Bay Beach.  Before we knew it, we were being fitted with life jackets, snorkels, and fins, if we wanted them.  The girls and I decided to forego the fins.  We were just going to snorkel in the bay, and it was so peaceful and calm, no waves, and one of the girls helping us said we didn't need them, so in order to keep it as simple as possible, we passed on the fins!  It took a few minutes for us to get situated in our gear, but we got ready, told ourselves to be brave, and then we walked into the water with a couple of guides, lifeguards, and most of our group.  Within seconds, Bridget was off!  I had Rachel and Gretchen glued to me, one on each side!  I slowly got us into deeper water.  Gretchen was brave and put her snorkel in her mouth several times, and even put her head in the water a couple of times, but the longer we were out, the more she started crying and the more she clung to me!  I decided the best thing to do was take her back to the beach.  One our way back to shallow water, we ran into the nicest lifeguard who had helped us earlier.  She was so good and talked to both my girls for a few minutes and really calmed Gretchen down.  We tried venturing out again, but it quickly became clear that Gretchen was not having it!  This darling lifeguard, Ella, told me to go on and she would take care of Gretchen, so off Rachel and I went!  Ella was beyond kind and hung out in the water with Gretchen for a while before moving back to the beach.  Gretchen honestly had the best time with her.  They played in the sand and talked and she was happy as a clam.  Soon after Rachel and I took off again, we found Bridget!  Bridget said she had seen multiple sea turtles, and lots of fish.  Within minutes, Bridget found another sea turtle for us.  Rachel started to get a little panicky, but bless that cute little sea turtle, he swam up to the top of the water, poked his head out so Rachel could see him, and then he swam back down.  Shortly after that, we saw a sting ray!  Now, to be clear, we were snorkeling in deep water, and the sting rays, sea turtles and fish, are all close to the ocean floor, while we are floating on top.  It is just the turtles who occasionally come up to the surface.  So all this to say, we are feet and feet away from these creatures, but that sting ray sent Rachel completely over the edge!  I continued to snorkel around and just dragged Rachel around with me!  Haha!  Bridget stuck close to the guides who swam over to the other side of the bay to show us the coral reef, sea urchins and a lion fish.  I kind of did my own thing, with Rachel in tow, as long as she could stand it!  Eventually, she was so unhinged, I took her back to shore and went out by myself for just a bit longer.  Luckily I was able to see one more sea turtle and several beautiful fish.  All in all, it was successful and I am so glad we did it!  While we were having that adventure, Richard and Marshall learned about pirates!  They did loads of driving, with an exceptional guide, who told them all sorts of history and current things.  St. Thomas was part of Denmark before it became a US territory.  They learned all about Black Beard and actual, legitimate treasure-thousands and thousands of gold and silver coins-blows my mind!  They both really, really enjoyed it.  Once we were all back on the boat we had the most relaxing afternoon.  Some chilled in the room, Richard and the older kids hit up some trivia, sometimes we were up on Deck 11 and 12 enjoying food and sun and lounging.  It was dreamy.  That evening Bridget, Gretchen and I went to the variety show and it was hilarious and amazing!  It was a husband and wife team, the DuBois.  She is a 6th generation circus performer and was on The Greatest Showman.  They were hilarious, but also amazing.  Incredible juggling, unicycles, silks, the works!  We loved it!  For dinner, we were back to Coco for their Day of the Dead celebration.  It was so, so fun.  Amazing dancing, great music, and beautiful storytelling.  We also had fantastic food that night.  Most of us got their mini churros with caramel dipping sauce for dessert and they were delicious.  After dinner, we did Music Through the Decades Trivia...Marshall told us our last 4 answers...we had no idea what the songs were!  Haha!

Thursday was our last full day at sea on the ship and we completely capitalized on it!  But we still let ourselves sleep in-haha!  But, we also got an extra hour of sleep back that night, which we very much needed...haha!  After breakfast at Marceline Market (I think all of us are missing that place!) the girls hit up the movie theater for Mufasa.  None of them had seen it yet, and they were excited.  Richard, Marshall and I played our own games from home as we waited for our trivia games to start.  After that, we all met up again and the big kids and I finally did the Aqua Mouse!  We went three times in a row, because of course, they each wanted a turn to ride with me.  :)  Awe, such love.  :)  We really did have a great time though and it was fun to share that experience with each of them.  And bonus, I didn't hurt my ankle, and I was able to get in and out of the tube without too much embarrassment!  Richard and Grizz hung out on Deck 11 and in the room while we were doing that.  Once we were done with that, Richard and Marshall took off for trivia again, I took a quick shower, and then I took Gretchen to meet Moana!  Gretchen only had two character requests, but Moana was one.  We got there early, so we were close to the front of the line, and Gretchen was very patient to wait with me.  Moana was so cute with her and told her if she ever sees a hawk in the sky, to think of Maui.  :)  After Moana, we all met up again to visit Jumbeaux's Sweets-a little dessert shop on the ship.  All the kids got gelato, Richard a rice krispy, and me, macaroons!  We ate up on Deck 11 and very much enjoyed our pre-dinner snack!  Ah, the cruise life, it's a good one!  After that, we dashed to get in line for Beauty and the Beast play in their main theatre.  It was great!  Gaston was especially amazing.  One funny moment was at the end when everyone had changed back into humans, Lumiere came running on stage, and his shoe flew into the audience!  It garnered a great laugh from everyone.  After the play, I convinced Richard to come see the DuBois' again-they were doing just a 30 minute adults only show, and once again, it was just fantastic!  Even Richard was impressed with their mad skills!  We had dinner at 1923, and Gretchen actually ate...which was a miracle.  She ate great the first night, and then just picked at her dinner all the other nights!  Anyway, after dinner, the girls and I were going to meet Minnie Mouse, Gretchen's other request, but we completely lucked out because Mickey was standing around without a line!  So, we got to meet him, and then Minnie came around the corner and Mickey and Minnie kissed, and Gretchen is still talking about it.  She was over the moon with this one second smooch!  So, within minutes, we met Mickey and Minnie and the whole thing was darling.  After that fun, Bridget and I met Richard and Marshall for the pop quiz show.  It was a small group, so I went up and participated and Richard did the lightning round!  He rocked it!  He had to listen to music and name the show/movie it came from.  He only missed one, and probably got almost 20 right.  Sadly, our team had not performed well in the regular rounds, but Richard caught us up enough that we only lost by 2 points!  We all had fun watching him up there!  What a day-we packed it in!  Constant fun on the ship!

Friday morning we were up at 9:00, and woke up to the lovely Castaway Cay, in the Bahamas, Disney's private island.  :)  We had a quick breakfast at Marceline Market again and were off the boat shortly after 10:00 am.  Unfortunately, the weather was not stellar this day (low 70s and overcast, with rain in the afternoon), but I had mentally and emotionally prepared myself for this based on Disney cruise Facebook groups, and other people I know who have visited there in the winter.  Anyway, all this to say, the weather could have been better, but we really still had a lot of fun, and I think given our family's beach dynamic, the weather actually helped us out!  Ha!  Anyway, off the boat shortly after 10:00.  We were all in our swimsuits, but we were all wearing jackets/hoodies.  We had to walk quite a ways, but we eventually made it to the beach, and because of the weather, we did not have to fight anyone for space!  We had arranged to rent snorkels, tubes, kayaks, and bikes, but because of the weather, the kayaks had been cancelled, but we picked up everything else.  Marshall and Bridget did snorkel a bit, but they didn't last long with the cooler temperatures.  We spent most of our beach time playing in the sand, the girls taking quick dips in the ocean, laying in a hammock, and lounging on beach chairs.  Gretchen, especially, had a great time.  She was 100% content to move from sand to water and actually probably spent the most time wading the water out of everyone.  This beach also had lots of shell pieces, and they were beautiful!  We left everything there, but she found shells with orange, purple, pink stripes...they were gorgeous!  She had a ball with the shells, sand and water.  Perfect life, if you ask me!  Even though we didn't spend lots of time in the water, we sure enjoyed looking at the water.  It was gorgeous!  Just clear and the most beautiful blues.  So pretty.  Disney provided lunch for us on the island so we didn't have to go back to the ship.  It was just a good old classic BBQ-hamburgers and hot dogs.  The kids were over the moon when they discovered unlimited soft serve ice cream!  Haha!  Another fun treat was we ran into Lloyd, our server!  He was so kind and helped the younger girls carry their trays and he got a table for us-the nicest guy!  After lunch, I went back to the beach with Rachel and Gretchen and Richard, Marshall, and Bridget biked around the island.  When they returned their bikes, Marshall found out that you could run a 5K on the island and get a medal.  So, he and Richard hurried back to the ship so Marshall could change his clothes and get his running shoes.  As soon as they were back, Marshall did his run.  By this time, it was raining, not pouring, but enough rain to make the sand not so fun.  We returned our rentals, packed up, and then the girls took shelter in a shop while we waited for Marshall to finish.  As soon as he was done, he got his medal, and we hopped on a little train to get us back to the ship.  Marshall was excited to run at sea level, but turns out, he hated the humidity!  But, still glad he did it.  Once we were back on the ship, we all got hot chocolate and took warm showers!  The live show that evening was Moana and it was stellar!  It was kind of a fusion between Moana and Moana 2, and Gretchen did not like that, but the rest of us really enjoyed it.  Moana, the actress, was amazing.  She had such a powerful voice.  The grandma served as the narrator, and also played her part, and she was delightful.  The stage was amazing, and the dancing was phenomenal.  Phenomenal!  After the show, we went back to our rooms to finish packing so we could have all our suitcases but one in the hallway-we were successful!  On our way to dinner, we ran into Minnie Mouse, who did not have a line!  Gretchen asked if we could stop, so she and I did and the rest went on ahead.  Oh my.  That darling Minnie was so cute and Minnie and Gretchen just held onto each other and I started to cry!  I was seriously a blubbering mess.  It was the sweetest.  We eventually made our way to dinner, back at Worlds of Marvel for our last night, hosted by Groot, who we all love, so that was a lot of fun.  As we were waiting for our main course though, a server who was carrying a tray full of dishes and lids accidentally dumped almost all of it on Bridget!  It was insane.  I was sitting across the table from her and I know my mouth was wide open in complete shock!  Fortunately, nothing hit her head, and I am so glad she didn't get cut or burned, but oh my, it was a mess!  Most of the food went down the back of her shirt.  Everyone was so apologetic.  The server felt awful, and we tried to assure him all was fine.  Our own server and assistant server were so attentive to us, as were many other staff.  They helped clean Bridget up and then they moved us to an open table around the corner because they had such a mess to clean up.  Once we were settled, they brought Bridget a ginger ale, and gave us extra dessert and two specialty non-alcoholic drinks in speciality cups.  Marshall and Rachel LOVED the drinks.  Needless to say, we got loads of attention as we finished our dinner!  The head server of the restaurant also checked on us multiple times and arranged to have Bridget and Richard's clothes laundered for free overnight.  Richard got a little dirty, but Bridget for sure took the brunt of it!  The whole thing was bananas, but we were not mad at all!  One other funny thing that evening is before the ship left the Bahamas the captain came over the speaker and said they anticipated 10 foot waves that night and said to prepare for a lot of movement.  Earlier in the week we had 6-7 foot waves.  So when we were talking about the waves during dinner Rachel said, "Nah, I'm not worried about 10 foot waves, I've survived 67 foot waves, so this won't be a big deal!"  Haha!  We got a great laugh out of that misunderstanding!  Anyway, after all the excitement died down after dinner, Richard, Bridget, Marshall and I went to go play Majority Matters for the last time...and we WON!  With a perfect score!  We each got a little Disney cruise line key chain and we were very happy with our victory!  By the time we went to bed, the boat was a rockin' but we just let it rock us to sleep and we enjoyed our last sleep on the ship.

Saturday, the saddest day, obviously!  We had to wake up early, and be out of our room by 8:00.  We begrudgingly said good-bye to our rooms and went to breakfast back to Worlds of Marvel.  We were happy to get a little more time with Lloyd and Yami and we did eat a really good breakfast.  Before we knew it, we were making our way off the ship and picking up our bags in customs.  A fantastic trip, but always so sad to leave!

Our flight didn't leave until 7:00 pm, so we had the whole day to kill.  We decided to just drive 20 minutes and spend the day at Cape Canaveral and do all the NASA things.  All I will say is, I am glad we went, but we could have spent just a little bit more money and gone to Disneyworld and everyone would have had way more fun!  Haha!  Marshall enjoyed it, and Richard and I liked it, but the girls were impressed zero.  Everyone was super well behaved, and we literally spent hours there, but no one was very impressed that Americans had figured out how to land on the moon...and all the steps it took to make it to that point!  I've decided I need to show them Apollo 13, but the hilarious comedy Rocketman has made a comeback in our house, and that makes me happy!

We had a safe flight home that night and fell into our beds at home about midnight.

Well, this has literally taken me eight days to write.  Finally done!

Love,

Richard, Jenny, Marshall, Bridget, Rachel and Gretchen :)
